Kanye West is making headlines again after publicly demanding the release of Sean "Diddy" Combs from federal custody. In a heated social media rant, Ye passionately defended the embattled music mogul, whom he refers to as his "hero" and "idol," while also calling out those who have remained silent on the issue.
On Wednesday night, Kanye posted on X, simply writing, "FREE PUFF." He later followed up with an explosive rant, accusing the authorities of making an example out of Diddy and expressing frustration at celebrities for not speaking up.
"THEY TRYNA PROVE A POINT AND YALL KNOW THAT," Kanye wrote. "YALL FING KNOW THAT AND SITTING LAUGHING AT THE FING INTERNET ON INSTAGRAM. THIS MAN GAVE HIS LIFE TO US. THIS MY IDOL. THIS MY HERO."
The rapper didn’t stop there. He also addressed the potential backlash for supporting Diddy, stating he no longer cares about being "canceled."
"WHAT YALL GONE DO? CANCEL MY SNEAKER DEAL? CANCEL MY RECORD DEAL? FREEZE MY ACCOUNTS? F* ALL YALL NS. SLAVERY IS A CHOICE. IM SPEAKING MY MIND NOW. I AINT EDITING SHT AGAIN EVER," he wrote.
Kanye's remarks have sparked widespread controversy, as many on social media expressed outrage over his support for Diddy, who is currently incarcerated at the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Brooklyn.
The hip-hop mogul is facing serious legal troubles, including federal charges of sex trafficking and racketeering, along with multiple civil lawsuits alleging abuse involving drugs, alcohol, and physical violence.
Despite the severity of the allegations, Kanye appears to be one of the first major celebrities to publicly stand by Diddy. He also made a notable move on Instagram by following only two people—his wife, Bianca Censori, and now, Diddy.
Many users online are questioning Ye’s stance, given the nature of the allegations against Diddy. Critics argue that his support overlooks the gravity of the accusations and disrespects the alleged victims.
Others see it as yet another instance of Kanye stirring controversy, especially with his repeated use of the phrase "slavery is a choice"—a comment that previously landed him in hot water back in 2018.
Diddy, who was arrested in connection with a sweeping federal investigation, has denied all allegations against him. Authorities claim the charges stem from years of alleged criminal activity, but his legal team insists he is innocent.
For now, Kanye West remains one of the few high-profile figures openly advocating for Diddy's release. However, his words have once again ignited debate over his judgment and the extent to which he is willing to defend those facing serious accusations.
As of now, representatives for Diddy have not responded to the controversy.
