Nicolas Cage Sued for Negligence by Ex Over Son's Alleged Assault

Nicolas Cage is facing a lawsuit from his ex, Christina Fulton, who claims he is partly to blame for their son Weston Cage’s violent assault on her. According to the lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles, Fulton is holding both Weston and Nicolas responsible for the brutal attack she endured in April 2023.

Fulton is suing Weston for assault, battery, negligence, and emotional distress—but what makes this case particularly shocking is her decision to also target Nicolas. She argues that the Hollywood star enabled his son's dangerous behavior for years, failing to intervene when it mattered most.

According to the court documents, Fulton alleges that Nicolas Cage was well aware of Weston’s long-standing mental and psychological disorders but did little to address them.

Instead of ensuring his son got the professional help he needed, she claims Nicolas simply provided him with financial support and repeatedly bailed him out of legal trouble.

Perhaps most alarming is her accusation that Nicolas frequently went out drinking with Weston, despite knowing about his struggles with substance abuse. She argues that rather than steering his son toward rehabilitation and treatment, Cage allowed him to spiral deeper into destructive behavior.

Weston’s assault on his mother was nothing short of horrific. According to the lawsuit, the attack took place in multiple locations—including a parking lot, an elevator, and the lobby of an apartment building. Surveillance footage allegedly captured the violent moments as they unfolded.

Fulton suffered a concussion, multiple contusions, neck and throat injuries, and a serious eye injury that she claims has left her permanently disfigured. The physical and emotional trauma, she says, has derailed her acting career and business ventures.

Weston was arrested following the attack and charged with assault with a deadly weapon, but he has pleaded not guilty and has yet to stand trial.

In response to the lawsuit, Cage’s legal team dismissed Fulton’s claims as "absurd and frivolous." His lawyer told TMZ, “Weston Coppola is a 34-year-old man. Mr. Cage does not control Weston’s behavior in any manner and is not responsible for Weston’s alleged assault of his mother.”

But Fulton’s attorney, Joseph Farzam, is pushing back hard. He argues that Nicolas Cage knowingly enabled his son’s violent tendencies and put others in grave danger.

"Nicolas took it upon himself to provide Weston with a condo right next to his, when he should have had Weston in rehab under care and supervision," Farzam said in a statement. "He kept bailing him out of jail, drinking with him, and taking him out of therapy and rehab. He instead provided his mentally disabled son with unlimited access to cash, knowing full well of his son’s propensity and history of violence. In doing so, he put my client and others in grave danger, which resulted in Ms. Fulton's lifelong serious physical and mental injuries."

The lawsuit raises serious questions about parental responsibility—especially when it comes to adult children with violent tendencies. While Cage’s legal team insists he cannot be held accountable for his 34-year-old son’s actions, Fulton believes his years of enabling behavior played a direct role in the tragic outcome.

At the heart of the case is whether Cage should have done more to force Weston into treatment rather than funding his destructive lifestyle. If the court sides with Fulton, it could set a precedent for holding parents legally responsible for the violent actions of their adult children—especially when mental illness and substance abuse are involved.

With Weston’s criminal case still unresolved and Fulton pushing for financial damages, this legal fight is far from over. If the court finds Nicolas liable, it could add yet another scandal to the Hollywood star’s long history of personal and legal troubles.

For now, the public is left wondering: Did Nicolas Cage really enable his son’s violent behavior—or is he simply being blamed for something out of his control?
